Your Uganda gorilla trekking safari begins with your arrival at Kigali International Airport in Rwanda, where you will be warmly welcomed by a professional safari guide from Rugo Miles Africa. After a short briefing about your adventure, the journey continues with a scenic drive from Kigali to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in southwestern Uganda.
The drive from Kigali to Bwindi covers approximately 170 to 200 kilometers depending on the sector of the park where your lodge is located. The journey takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, making this route significantly shorter compared to traveling from Entebbe in Uganda. Along the way, travelers enjoy breathtaking views of Rwanda’s famous land of a thousand hills, lush green countryside, terraced agricultural landscapes, and vibrant rural villages.
During the journey, there may be a brief stop in Kigali city for optional sightseeing such as visiting the Kigali Genocide Memorial, a powerful historical site that provides insight into Rwanda’s history and resilience.
After crossing the Katuna or Cyanika border post into Uganda, the landscape becomes even more dramatic as the road winds through mountainous terrain and dense forests. Upon arrival at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, you will check in at your lodge located near the trekking sector.
The evening is spent relaxing at the lodge while enjoying views of the surrounding rainforest. Your guide will also brief you about the gorilla trekking experience scheduled for the following day, including guidelines and expectations.
