Day To Day

Day 1

Arrival at Entebbe International Airport and Transfer to Kampala

Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received by a professional safari guide from Rugo Miles Africa, who will assist you with luggage and provide a comprehensive briefing about your upcoming Uganda safari adventure. Entebbe is located on the shores of Lake Victoria, the largest freshwater lake in Africa, and your transfer to Kampala City covers approximately 45 kilometers, taking about 1 hour, depending on traffic. As you drive through Entebbe’s green suburbs and into Kampala, you will observe daily Ugandan life, roadside markets, and colonial style architecture. This gentle introduction allows you to recover from international travel while beginning to absorb the country’s vibrant culture. If time permits, guests may explore local craft markets or enjoy a relaxed evening at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay in Kampala.

Day 2

Transfer from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park

After an early breakfast, your safari journey begins as you depart Kampala heading northwest towards Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest protected area. The drive covers approximately 305 kilometers and takes around 5 to 6 hours, passing through scenic countryside, sugarcane plantations, small towns, and traditional villages. The gradual transition from urban landscapes to open savannah provides an authentic view of rural Uganda. A major highlight of this day is the visit to the Top of Murchison Falls, where the Nile River is forced through a narrow 7 meter gorge before plunging powerfully into the Devil’s Cauldron below. The sound, mist, and raw energy of the falls create a dramatic welcome to the park. Wildlife sightings may begin immediately upon entering the park, including baboons and antelopes. Dinner and overnight near the park.

Day 3

Game Drive and Nile Boat Safari in Murchison Falls National Park

This day is fully dedicated to exploring the wildlife rich ecosystems of Murchison Falls National Park. After an early breakfast, you will embark on a morning game drive in the northern sector of the park, an area characterized by rolling savannah plains, acacia woodlands, and riverine forests. This area is known for high concentrations of elephants, Rothschild giraffes, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, hartebeests, and predators such as lions and leopards. The open landscape allows for excellent wildlife viewing and photography as animals gather in the cooler morning hours. After lunch, you will enjoy a three hour boat cruise along the Nile River, traveling upstream toward the base of Murchison Falls. This cruise offers close encounters with hippos, Nile crocodiles, and elephants drinking at the riverbanks, as well as abundant birdlife including kingfishers, fish eagles, and herons. The combination of land and water based safari activities makes this day one of the most rewarding experiences in Uganda.

Day 4

Transfer from Murchison Falls National Park to Kibale Forest National Park

Following breakfast, you will begin a scenic full day drive to Kibale Forest National Park, covering approximately 400 kilometers and taking 7 to 8 hours. This journey showcases Uganda’s remarkable landscape diversity, transitioning from savannah plains to fertile farmlands, tea estates, crater lakes, and tropical rainforest zones. You will enjoy lunch en route while passing near the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, often referred to as the Mountains of the Moon. As you approach Kibale, the environment becomes increasingly lush, signaling entry into one of Africa’s most important primate habitats. Upon arrival, you will check in to your lodge and spend the evening relaxing, surrounded by forest sounds and cool highland air in preparation for the next day’s chimpanzee trekking.

Day 5

Chimpanzee Trekking Experience in Kibale Forest National Park

This day offers one of Uganda’s most sought after wildlife encounters, chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park. After an early breakfast, you will report to the park headquarters for a detailed briefing by experienced wildlife rangers. The trek takes place within dense tropical rainforest, where towering fig trees, forest vines, and rich biodiversity create a truly immersive environment. Trekking duration ranges from 2 to 4 hours, depending on chimpanzee movement. Once located, you will spend one full hour observing the chimpanzees as they feed, groom, communicate, and move through the forest canopy. Kibale is also home to other primates such as red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys, and grey cheeked mangabeys, making the experience even richer. The afternoon can be spent relaxing at the lodge or exploring nearby wetlands and communities.

Day 6

Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kazinga Channel Boat Safari

After breakfast, you will travel approximately 150 kilometers in 3 to 4 hours to Queen Elizabeth National Park, Uganda’s most diverse wildlife reserve. The drive offers scenic views of crater lakes and the distant Rwenzori Mountains. Upon arrival, you will enjoy lunch before embarking on an afternoon boat safari along the Kazinga Channel, a 32 kilometer natural waterway connecting Lake George and Lake Edward. This channel hosts one of the highest concentrations of hippos in Africa, along with crocodiles, buffaloes, elephants, and an incredible variety of bird species. The slow paced cruise provides excellent photography opportunities and a unique perspective of wildlife interaction around water.

Morning Game Drive in Queen Elizabeth National Park

Day 8

Transfer to Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, you will drive approximately 90 kilometers in about 3 hours to the southern Ishasha sector, an area famous for its rare tree climbing lions. The landscape here is flatter and dotted with large fig trees where lions are often seen resting during the heat of the day. An afternoon game drive provides opportunities to observe these unique lions, as well as elephants, buffaloes, and topis roaming the plains. The Ishasha sector offers a quieter and more remote safari experience.

Day 9

Transfer from Ishasha to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park

Following breakfast, you will travel approximately 65 kilometers, taking 3 hours, to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. The drive winds through rolling hills, terraced farms, and mist covered highlands, offering stunning scenery. Bwindi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most biologically diverse forests in Africa. Upon arrival, you will check in to your lodge and spend the rest of the day resting in preparation for the gorilla trekking adventure.

Day 10

Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

This is the most anticipated day of the safari with mountain gorilla trekking. After an early breakfast, you will attend a briefing by Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers before trekking into the dense forest. The trek can last 2 to 6 hours, depending on the location of the gorilla family. The forest terrain is steep and challenging but incredibly rewarding. Once the gorillas are found, you will spend one unforgettable hour observing them in their natural habitat, watching their interactions, movements, and gentle behavior. This experience is often described as life changing.

Transfer from Bwindi to Lake Mburo National Park

After breakfast, you will travel approximately 260 kilometers over 5 to 6 hours to Lake Mburo National Park. The route passes through scenic countryside, cattle farms, and rolling savannah. Lake Mburo is known for its peaceful atmosphere and wildlife such as zebras, impalas, elands, and giraffes. An evening game drive may be enjoyed upon arrival.
